Cool Gmail + Google Calendar integration
This is either pretty cool or scary. Maybe both. Gmail noticed that the text of this e-mail appeared to be referring to an event, parsed the date and time, and suggested adding it to my calendar for me (notice the link at the right-hand side)! Click the image below for a larger version.

Sam's Club by bicycle
I wanted an excuse to take my new bike for a slightly longer and less-loaded down trip than my morning commute, so I decided to run to Sam's Club on my lunch hour. I used the bird's eye view on Microsoft's Live Maps to scout out the building, and identify some columns on the corner where I could lock up the bike. More about bike rack locations another time...
One problem was I didn't have my Sam's card with me. I figured they would be able to look me up in the system, and the lady at the front door said that was okay. She pointed me to the membership desk, but I thought I would just ask the cashier to look me up (mistake). When I got to the checkout, I was informed that I should have gone to the membership desk and received a temporary ID card. The cashier had to call over someone from membership, who took my drivers license away to a desk and was gone for 2-3 minutes. I mentioned that the cashier was friendly, but the guy in line behind me wasn't. I apologized at first, and after they had to take my drivers license away, stepped aside and told the cashier she could go ahead and let him go through. But his mood didn't improve. Next time I'll bring my card!
The reason I went to Sam's was to purchase a couple of Hot & Cold insulated bags. My mom has one and they seem to work very well. I actually got a couple for Dan too, we both plan to use them for grocery shopping by bicycle. Dan also mentioned that he could use one to pick up a pizza on his bike on the way home, which made me hungry for pizza!
Anyway, the trip was 4 miles roundtrip, and was pretty tolerable on a warm afternoon in my work clothes. I don't yet have rear baskets, so I had to fold up the bags newspaper style to bring them back to the office. I felt like a paper boy with the bags sticking out:
